Originally released in 2011, Cabin in the Woods is the crème de la crème of horror genre commentary. It was made by the guys behind Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Drew Goddard, Joss Whedon) and plays like a love letter to all of the tropes we know and love about spooky movies but with that self-aware humor that they’ve achieved in other projects (Avengers, Firefly, Cloverfield, Daredevil). Equal parts horror, comedy, and social commentary - Cabin in the Woods will have you on the edge of your seat, laughing, and thinking about how horror films can tell us about society in a way that no other genre can. Don’t miss out seeing this gem on a big screen 15 years after its release. There’re mermaids, zombies, cannibals, one way mirrors, a weird make out scene with a taxidermied wolf, harbingers, shattered stereotypes, and oh so many ghouls - also Chris Hemsworth on a motorcycle and a cameo from one of the all time final girls.
