Starring a stellar cast including 90s icon Rachael Leigh Cook as Josie (She’s All That, All I Wanna Do!), Rosario Dawson (Ahsoka in Disney’s 2023 miniseries), Tara Reid (American Pie’s Vicky), Parker Posey (White Lotus, Scream 3, Dazed and Confused), Alan Cumming (Spy Kid’s Floop), and Seth Green (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Robot Chicken, Austin Powers) just to name a few of the sparkling performances here from actors you know and love. Josie and the Pussycats is nothing without its iconic soundtrack. Josie’s songs are penned and performed by a veritable turn of the millennium supergroup composed of Kay Hanley, lead singer of Letters to Cleo, Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne, and the legendary producer Babyface (behind massive hits of Madonna, Whitney Houston, and Eric Clapton). Fun fact: Although the cast did go to a camp for two weeks to learn their parts, Josie’s vocals were ultimately recorded by the formidable Hanley for the film. If you like what Beck did with the Scott Pilgrim vs the World soundtrack then you’ll dig this! Josie and The Pussycats is a rare sensation of a film, completely locked in the aesthetic moment of 2001 yet timeless in its satire of consumerism. Josie and the Pussycats is a movie about the joy of friendship and the importance of supporting each other (but also there’s brainwashing and a dastardly corporate plot and some of the best costuming this side of Y2K).
